Hate crime has no place in Greater Manchester. Everyone has the right to feel safe, respected and free to be themselves, without the fear of hostility or intimidation because of who they are or who someone believes them to be.
Hate crime can take many forms, including verbal abuse, threats, harassment, violence and damage to property. Its impact can extend far beyond the incident itself, affecting someone’s confidence, wellbeing and sense of safety in their community.
From 10-17 October, National Hate Crime Awareness Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact hate crime can have on
individuals, families and communities. By challenging prejudice and supporting those affected, we can help create a safer and more inclusive city region.
Support is available for anyone affected by hate crime. Greater Manchester Victims' Services (GMVS) provides free, confidential support, whether or not it has been reported it to the police. This includes practical and emotional support, guidance on available options and referrals to specialist services where needed.
If you know someone who has been affected by hate crime or would like to find out more about the support available, visit the Greater Manchester Victims' Services.
Thank you, Inspector Matthew Harvey - Trafford Neighbourhood Team
